Burton Medical Products has released its new light-emitting diode (LED) exam light, the AIM LED.
The light provides 10 times the life of a standard halogen light and uses 55% less energy, the company said. With 21 individual LEDs in three modules, the AIM LED provides 10% more illumination (45,000 lux at 1 m) than Burton's AIM-50, while only requiring 84 watts of power.

The AIM LED offers a color rendering index (CRI) of 92 and a color temperature of 4300° K. It lasts 20,000 hours, and its savings could amount to $1,000 in bulb replacements alone over the life of the product, Burton said.
The light also features a Y-shaped design intended to minimize the obstruction of light into the surgical field and provide a larger and adjustable light pattern without casting shadows.
Its 360°, limitless arm-and-mounting-system rotation provides a maximum reach of 63 inches and a diameter of 10 ft. This allows the AIM LED to illuminate the patient from head to toe with no drift.
The exam light is available in four models: floor stand, single ceiling, double ceiling, and wall mount, and comes with a five-year limited warranty.
