Detroit dentist's license suspended for fraud

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) announced last week that it has suspended the license of Lawrence Wendell Stewart, D.D.S., of Detroit, based on his conviction for Medicaid fraud.

Dr. Stewart, 43, did not report his convictions in the 30th Judicial Circuit Court of Ingham County to MDCH as required by law, the agency said.

On June 6, 2008, Dr. Stewart was convicted of 41 felony counts of Medicaid fraud, sentenced to a year in prison, placed on probation for 60 months with terms, and ordered to pay restitution, fines, costs, and fees totaling $131,089.79, the agency reported.
