Solea laser named to Popular Science's Best of What's New list

Convergent Dental's Solea laser was named one of Popular Science magazine's Best of What's New products for 2014.

Each year, the editors of the magazine review products in search of the top 100 tech innovations of the year in 12 categories: aerospace, automotive, engineering, entertainment, gadgets, green, hardware, health, home, recreation, security, and software.

Solea is the first CO2 laser system cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for hard and soft tissues and the first computer-aided preparation system for dentistry. The dental laser's 9.3-µm wavelength and application of computer controls enable the laser to replace the drill as the primary tool for hard- and soft-tissue surgeries.

"Convergent Dental's CO2 dental laser Solea is changing what it means to go to the dentist by providing a technology that delivers fast, virtually painless, noiseless, anesthesia-free procedures that alleviate patients' fears and encourage them to receive proper oral care to stay healthy and happy," Convergent Dental CEO Michael Cataldo stated in a press release.

The Solea laser also received a 2014 Dental Excellence Award in the Best New Instrument/Device category from DrBicuspid.com at the recent ADA annual meeting in San Antonio.
