Center for Oral Health offers Calif. fellowship

The Center for Oral Health (COH) is launching a health leadership fellows program in California.

The main objective of the Isman-Fine Oral Health Leadership Fellows Program is to foster and mentor new emerging leaders to counteract an anticipated loss of established dental public health advocates, according to the center.

This program will help the selected dentists, dental hygienists, or individuals with a master's or higher degree in public health generate and engage with younger public health professionals and oral health advocates. It will also increase their knowledge of public policy and help them more effectively assume leadership roles, the center noted.

Each fellow will receive a $10,000 stipend. During the 12-month program, participants will meet with oral health leaders, research public policy topics affecting the oral health of vulnerable populations, and summarize their research findings in the form of reports, peer-reviewed publications, and policy briefs. Selected fellows may be asked to provide briefings to policymakers locally or in Sacramento or Washington, DC. They are required to work on a research project a minimum of seven hours per week.

Applications are due on August 7, and the first selected participant will be presented with the fellowship award at COH's 30th anniversary gala on November 20, 2015.
