Tufts Univ. teams with Red Sox on oral cancer awareness

Students and faculty from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston offered oral cancer screenings, brochures, and free samples of toothpaste and toothbrushes donated by Tufts to fans at a recent Red Sox baseball game.

The event was the eighth annual Tooth Day at Fenway Park, a community outreach event organized by the school's Alpha Omega Dental (AO) fraternity, according to a story on wickedlocal.com.

The Red Sox invited members of the Tufts team onto to the field to be recognized during a ceremony before the July 2 game against the San Diego Padres.

Tooth Day founder and AO member, Heidi Aaronson, DMD, started the event in 2006 while she was a dental student at Tufts as a way to raise awareness of the health risks associated with chewing tobacco.
