Fla. lawmakers nix funding for new dental college

The Florida Legislature did not pass a bill that would have authorized, and provided funding for, a new dental college at Florida A&M University (FAMU), according to a story in the Florida Times-Union.

The university will use other funds to move ahead with planning for the school, FAMU's director of governmental relations Tola Thompson told the Times-Union.

Supporters are hoping that the new dental college will take over operations of the University of Florida College of Dentistry's Jacksonville clinic, which is slated to close June 30, according to the story.
