UCSF names new chair of oral, maxillofacial surgery

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry has appointed Brian Bast, DMD, MD, as the new chair of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS).

Dr. Bast is a health sciences associate clinical professor in the dental school's OMFS department, chief of OMFS at San Francisco General Hospital, and OMFS residency director, according to the university. He has served as interim chair since July 1, 2014.

Dr. Bast obtained his dental degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1997 and his medical degree from the UCSF School of Medicine in 2000.

He maintains practices at UCSF, in the medical center, in the School of Dentistry, and at the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Dr. Bast's clinical interests include the management of facial trauma and the surgical correction of dental facial deformities.
