Salimetrics has developed three new salivary assays for use as markers for peridontal disease: IL-1 beta, MMP-8, and albumin.
The assays will initially be offered via the company’s in-house saliva testing service and then sold in Kit form starting early next year, Salimetrics said in a press release.
There has been increasing interest in exploring saliva for biomarkers related to periodontal disease to enable earlier and more effective treatment, the company noted.
“Research has progressed to the point that we are now witnessing initial attempts to put what has been learned into practice. Once these practical trials have identified the most effective analytes and techniques, it should then be possible to make them available for clinical use,” the press release said.
