Guardian expands dental HMO coverage

Guardian Life Insurance Company of America has announced enhancements to its dental HMO (DHMO) plans that include coverage for oral cancer screenings, adult fluoride treatments, and teeth whitening, according to a company press release.

Other benefits include:

  • General anesthesia for oral surgery procedures
  • An increase in the number of annual periodontal cleanings to four without evidence of medical need
  • A continuation of benefits for orthodontic treatment for people whose treatment was still in progress when they switched DHMO carriers
  • Picking up the cost of office visit copayments for members and their dependents once a plan has been in force for three years

"Business owners recognize the value of dental insurance as a cost-effective way to minimize healthcare costs for themselves and their employees," stated Chris Swanker, vice president of Guardian Group Dental, in the release. "The enhancement on our DHMO offering will only help to make important coverage that promotes oral health available to a wider population."

The DHMO plans are now available in California, Missouri, New York, Indiana, Florida, and Illinois.
