Budget cuts derail Mo. dental school plan

Plans for a new dental school in southern Missouri have been suspended after state budget cuts eliminated more than 40% of the money set aside for the school.

Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) had planned to open its dental school in the fall 2018 semester, according to a story in the Joplin Globe. However, the state budget submitted by Gov. Eric Greitens (R) withholds more than $800,000 from the $2 million budgeted toward the opening of the dental school.

MSSU President Alan Marble said the university would continue to pursue the dental school and work to change state funding allocations.
