A 57-year-old Nebraska dentist has pleaded not guilty to stealing nearly $17,000 worth of gold from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Omaha.
Randall Toothaker, DDS, appeared in federal court on July 30, according to an Associated Press story.
Prosecutors said a lab technician reported seeing Dr. Toothaker open a locked cabinet where precious metals used in procedures were stored.
Dr. Toothaker tried to leave the property with the missing metals while VA officials investigated, according to prosecutors. He was pulled over by police, who found the missing metals in his vehicle.
