The first community dental clinic in California to integrate oral and behavioral screening will be built in Oakland.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration awarded $1 million for the dental clinic to Asian Health Services (AHS), a community health center that provides primary, dental, and behavioral health services to underserved families. The service needs to raise $3 million to build and equip the clinic, according to AHS.
The 4,000-sq-ft dental clinic will be located on the first floor of a building housing more than 70 affordable housing units. The clinic will include endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric services for Alameda County's low-income patients, who also face language and cultural barriers. It will feature seven dental operatories, two pediatric suites, and one counseling room.
