U.S. Senate confirms Pruitt as head of EPA

The U.S. Senate has confirmed the nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The vote by the Senate was 52-46.

Pruitt became attorney general of Oklahoma in 2010. Previously, he had served as a state senator.

Various environmental groups opposed his nomination to head the EPA. An advocate of state's rights, as attorney general he filed lawsuits challenging the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the authority of various EPA policies.
