Planmeca imaging software now supports Macs

Planmeca has released version 2.4 of its Planmeca Romexis dental imaging software, which features full Mac operating system support for all Planmeca x-ray units and tools for enhanced implant planning.

Planmeca is the first dental manufacturer to offer Mac OS operating system support for all its x-ray units, according to the company.

With the Planmeca Romexis software, whatever the diagnostic requirement, the images can be acquired, viewed, processed, and stored in either Mac OS or MS Windows, the Planmeca said. The software's Apple compatibility also makes it possible to send 2D and 3D images acquired with Planmeca x-ray units to an iPhone or iPad with one click. The feature is currently supported by the OsiriX Mobile application, which allows viewing, rotating, and zooming of images.

Planmeca Romexis also includes an implant library containing a comprehensive selection of realistic implant models from several manufacturers, such as Antrogyr, Astra, Biotech, Bredent, Friadent, GC, Straumann, and Zimmer, with more to follow. Other new features include an implant verification tool that allows examination of the implant in relation to the surrounding anatomy by visualizing slice views and average HU-values around the implant.

The Planmeca Romexis software suite includes all dental imaging modalities: intraoral, panoramic, cephalometric, 3D imaging, tomography, photos, and intraoral video imaging. It integrates with various third-party equipment using the TWAIN interface and with third-party software, and communicates via the DICOM standard.
