Tenn. dental board bans teeth-whitening kiosks

Tennessee has become the latest state to take action against nondentists performing teeth whitening at the mall.

The Tennessee Board of Dentistry voted on January 8 to ban all teeth-whitening kiosks in shopping malls, according to news reports. The board ruled that teeth whitening is a dental procedure that can only be performed by licensed professionals.

The decision does not affect at-home teeth-whitening products that are purchased from stores.
