AAOF establishes Boyd biomedical research award

The American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) has recognized orthodontist and periodontist Robert L. Boyd, DDS, MEd, by establishing a biomedical research award in his name.

"The creation of the Robert L. Boyd Biomedical Research Award speaks volumes about Bob Boyd's character," stated Robert James Bray, DDS, president of the foundation, in a press release. "Bob Boyd has been an active and supportive member of the AAO Foundation for many years."

Dr. Boyd currently serves as the Frederick T. West Endowed Chair of the department of orthodontics at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

"The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of Pacific is extremely proud of Dr. Boyd and his contributions to orthodontics and dental education," stated Arthur A. Dugoni, DDS, MSD, dean emeritus of the dental school.

Throughout his career, Dr. Boyd has written more than150 scientific articles, chapters, and abstracts. He was also the principal investigator for the first clinical study of Invisalign.

"I am deeply honored by the AAO Foundation," Dr. Boyd stated. "My career as a faculty person and our department's success over the past 20 years was to a large degree made possible by the support of the AAO Foundation."
