Canadian company seeks FDA approval for tooth coating

CHX Technologies announced it would seek U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2017 for the company's topical, prescription tooth coating to prevent dental decay.

The coating, called Prevora, is applied by a dental professional to adult teeth at risk for cavities, extractions, root canal, and more. It has been approved by Health Canada, the European Medicines Agency, and other regulatory agencies, according to the company.

Prevora reduced cavities in high-risk adults by up to 70% versus placebo over a yearlong phase III clinical trial, CHX noted.
