Snuggie maker to drop claims for interdental cleaner

Consumer brand developer and marketer Allstar Products Group, maker of the Snuggie and other products, will voluntarily remove some claims in its television commercial for Dr. Hart's Power Floss after an inquiry by the Better Business Bureau.

Power Floss is a device that cleans teeth and gums with a mixture of water and air. Allstar aired commercials for the interdental cleaner during children's television programming.

The Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus asked Allstar for evidence to support claims made in the commercial, including the following:

  • "Power away plaque-causing debris in 60 seconds or less."
  • "Patients are definitely seeing results."
  • "Long-term result is healthy gum, healthy teeth, and healthy mouth."

Instead of providing evidence, Allstar said it will permanently removed the challenged claims.

CARU is part of the Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (ASRC), a coalition of multiple advertising and business agencies. The goal of the ASRC is to promote truth in advertising.
