Up to 29 kids affected in Calif. bacteria outbreak

Up to 29 children between the ages of 3 and 9 have been affected by the Mycobacterium outbreak at a Southern California dental clinic.

There have been 10 confirmed mycobacterial infections and 19 probable cases. All of the children involved have been admitted to a hospital at some point, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA). The children developed slowly progressive oral cellulitis after having pulpotomies between April 6, 2016, and July 28, 2016, at the Children's Dental Group in Anaheim, CA.

The outbreak came to public health officials' attention in September. The clinic was ordered by OCHCA to stop using its onsite water system, the cause of the outbreak. Since then, the agency has approved the selection and installation of a new water system.
