Glidewell introduces scanning abutments

Glidewell Laboratories is now offering Inclusive scanning abutments for clinical use.

Compatible with most major implant systems, these abutments can be used with any digital impression system to capture the location, angulation, and connection orientation of the implant in the patient's mouth, according to Glidewell. This eliminates the need for conventional implant impressions.

By using Inclusive scanning abutments and partnering with Glidewell Laboratories to restore their implant cases, dentists get the added benefit of precision CAD/CAM restorations. Bulky trays and sticky impression materials are no longer required. Instead, an Inclusive scanning abutment is attached to the implant. An intraoral scanner is then used to capture the position of the abutment, followed by buccal, lingual, occlusal, and patient bite scans with the scanning abutment removed.

Once the patient is scanned, the digital impression can be submitted electronically to Glidewell. Experienced technicians use the digital impression and CAD/CAM technology to design custom abutments, provisionals, or final restorations. The custom implant restorations are then machined to precise specifications and returned to the dentist for the trial fitting and final seating.
