Coltene to launch composite blocks, enters CAD/CAM market

Coltene announced it has become a new material partner for Sirona Dental System's Cerec CAD/CAM system, and will launch Brilliant Crios reinforced composite blocks in the first quarter of 2016.

Brilliant Crios blocks are for chairside-manufactured permanent inlays, onlays, full anatomical crowns, and veneers, and they are suited for computer-assisted processing directly in the dental practice, according to Coltene.

The composite formulation for Brilliant Crios combines the best properties of the Miris composite system and the new Brilliant EverGlow composite material. With its high flexural strength and elasticity similar to dentin, the restoration material is tougher and less brittle than ceramic, reducing the risk of chipping and cracking during manufacturing and in situ, according to the company. It also has a shock-absorbing effect, suited for implant restorations.
