Green Day guitarist diagnosed with tonsil cancer

Green Day guitarist Jason White has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.

The famed punk rock group said White recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, during which his doctor discovered a "treatable form of tonsil cancer," according to a statement released by the band.

White became a full-time member of the band in 2012 after working with the band for almost 13 years, according to abcnews.go.com.

"Thankfully, they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery," the band's statement said.
