Oral cancer researcher receives $200K grant

The Sidney Kimmel Foundation announced that oral stem cell researcher Scott Williams, PhD, is one of 15 recipients for the 2015 Kimmel Scholar Program and will receive two-year grants totaling $200,000.

Williams is an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He was recognized for his work on oral stem cells' role in squamous cell carcinomas.

The Kimmel Scholar Awards seek to advance the careers of talented, young scientists involved in cancer research. Those selected must be in the early stages of their research careers and have not yet received a major grant from the National Institutes of Health or other funding sources.
