ADA 2015: ADA marks water fluoridation anniversary

WASHINGTON, DC - At its 2015 annual meeting, the ADA is marking the 70th anniversary of community water fluoridation with poster displays and acknowledgement of a recent U.S. House of Representatives' resolution on the importance of community water fluoridation.

"This is the most effective weapon in dentistry, I believe, to prevent not only tooth decay but mouth disease in general and overall health," stated Raymond Gist, DDS, past ADA president, in a press release.

In September 2015, dentist lawmaker Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) introduced House Resolution 416, recognizing community water fluoridation as a "vitally important public health initiative."
