HRSA awards UCSF $1.75M for oral health training

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded a University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) professor a $1.75 million grant to implement a collaborative oral health training program for predoctoral students

The program, Predoctoral Training in General, Pediatric, and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, will be led by Brent Lin, DMD, a professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry. Dr. Lin will work with dentists, dental hygienists, medical professionals, and nurses at various healthcare facilities to develop a program that teaches future healthcare providers about oral health and access-to-care issues. The program will also establish a curriculum for dental hygiene student that emphasizes pediatric dental care, community-based practice, and treatment of special needs children.

"We're very grateful for the opportunity provided by HRSA to create a program that will benefit our predoctoral healthcare professional students and also address the access of care and oral health disparity issues among the underserved communities," Dr. Lin said.
