Lythos is designed to deliver dual-arch capture in an average of seven minutes, according to the company. The Lythos wand is ergonomic for the operator to allow for comfortable access to the posterior.

Lythos' open system allows data to be integrated with orthodontic labs and appliance manufacturers to produce various custom appliances and/or study models, including compatibility with Insignia advanced smile design, Clearguide Express, and Allesee Orthodontic Appliances (AOA) lab. Additionally, when Lythos scan data are used for Ormco and/or AOA products, practices earn rebates toward the payment of the impression system.

The small, portable device aims to reduce the need for taking traditional polyvinylsiloxane (PVS) and alginate impressions for all indications in the orthodontic practice. Lythos' AFI technology captures data in real-time -- versus postprocess stitching -- acquiring high-definition detail at all angulations of the tooth surface scanned, according to Ormco. With this technology an entire high-resolution, dual-arch scan can be completed in roughly the same time as a PVS impression.
