Researchers reviewed the literature to see which materials could cause tooth discoloration and how to successfully avoid this issue.  Discuss
Study compares imaging modalities for microcrack detection
August 9, 2019 -- When trying to locate microcracks on root dentin after root canal prep, is microcomputed tomography or cone-beam CT a more effective imaging modality? Researchers scanned 30 molars to find out.  Discuss
Review: Oral health education from nurses, others is effective
August 5, 2019 -- Educational, preventive dental programs are being presented to new mothers by nondental practitioners as a way to reduce the prevalence of early childhood caries. Researchers reviewed the literature and found these programs can improve the oral health of those involved.  Discuss
Is probing the best measurement for peri-implant health?
August 2, 2019 -- Pocket probing depth and bleeding on probing are useful for assessing periodontal conditions, but are these the best measurements to evaluate the health of peri-implant tissue? Researchers conducted a literature review and suggested using a different evaluation process.  Discuss
Study supports clear aligners for orthognathic surgery patients
August 1, 2019 -- Patients needing orthognathic surgery generally have orthodontic treatment before and after. Researchers compared the outcomes for patients who used clear-aligner therapy with those who used conventional orthodontic hardware. Feldspathic ceramic scores highest in composite hardness testing
July 19, 2019 -- Researchers wanted to see which CAD/CAM composites for molars were hardest and held up best after toothbrush abrasion testing. After putting six composites through rigorous testing, they discovered that feldspathic ceramic scored the highest in hardness, but some of the composites might need periodic repolishing.  Discuss
Can autofluorescence find bacterial contamination in root fractures?
July 17, 2019 -- When looking for root fractures, conventional scanning methods may miss crucial clinical information. Researchers wanted to see if a fluorescence camera could measure the depth of these fractures and any bacterial presence in extracted mandibular second molars.  Discuss
