Cavex launches at-home whitening system

Cavex has launched its Bite & White ABC Masterkit at-home teeth-whitening system.

The system is designed for dental practices to provide whitening services to patients concerned about excessive sensitivity, unnaturally white teeth, or high cost, according to the company.

In step A (activation), the user brushes with Cavex Bite & White Stainless, which removes surface stains and plaque and raises the pH of the mouth. In step B (brightening), the patient fills dentist-provided trays with a whitening gel containing 16% carbamide peroxide (equal to 6% hydrogen peroxide). The gel has thixotropic behavior by adhering to the tooth surface rather than running to the tooth neck and gingiva, where sensitivity can be a problem, according to Cavex. It contains potassium nitrate to avoid sensitivity, as well as sodium fluoride to reinforce enamel. The trays should be worn for 50 to 60 minutes.

In step C (conditioning), the user places Cavex Bite & White ExSense gel in the trays, which should be worn for 10 minutes. The gel contains a blend of hydroxyapatite and a hydro-dispersing clay. The clay accelerates the dispersion of the hydroxyapatite into the tubules and microcracks in the enamel, sealing off the areas likely to cause sensitivity. The hydroxyapatite helps restore microhardness and accelerates the remineralization process.

Dental practices can use the kit as an at-home supplement to in-office whitening or as an alternative to in-office whitening.

The kit is distributed in the U.S. by Benco Dental and Practicon Dental.
