Editor's note: This is another installment in a yearlong series that is designed to help dentists and team members understand their practice management software better.

Today, we are providing you with another tip from Dayna Johnson, a certified Dentrix trainer and founder of Novonee.com. If you have a Dentrix question you would like Dayna to answer for an upcoming column, you can email her at [email protected].

Look for an article focused on Eaglesoft later this month. An article focused on Curve Dental ran earlier this month.

Q: I am seeing all the buzz about our fall hygiene schedule being empty because we were closed from mid-March to late-May. What is the best report to run to help fill our hygiene schedule?

A: Assuming that you have already rescheduled all the patients from the time your office was closed, the best report is going to look for patients who are overdue for their recare. This is going to be the Continuing Care List, and there are two ways you can run it. You can generate the traditional Continuing Care List from the appointment book or generate a more interactive list from the Letters & Custom Lists on the Office Manager.

As a reminder, more than likely, these patients have already received your automated text or email reminders that they are overdue, so this will require you getting on the phone and calling them. You will need to designate time in your day to make calls to your overdue patients and ensure you are all making follow-up notes in the same place (my favorite spot is the Office Journal).

There are two recare reports you can choose from, and I can send you a tip sheet on both of them if you want a resource guide to help give you some instructions. Just email me directly and I will send you my tip sheets. Also, if you are short-staffed or just don't have time in your day to make calls, I can give you some solutions for that as well.
