Editor's note: This is another installment in a yearlong series that is designed to help dentists and team members understand their practice management software better.

Today, we are providing you with another tip from Dayna Johnson, a certified Dentrix trainer and founder of Novonee. If you have a Dentrix question you would like Dayna to answer for an upcoming column, you can email her at [email protected].

Q: I am trying to find my total active patients. In Dentrix, where is the most accurate number of active patients?

A: There are different reports in Dentrix that will show you the total number of patients in your practice. You could run a Patient List or a Practice Statistics Report. However, these reports are only looking at the patient status on the Family File.

The most accurate and up-to-date report is the Practice Advisor. This report is the best, in my opinion, because you can search by last-visit date. The Practice Advisor Report allows you to search by status and last-visit date, so you will not count anyone who still has a patient status but hasn't been in the office for five years. This is a much more accurate number.

You can learn more about the Practice Advisor Report on Novonee.com.
