Dentist named in college admissions scandal

March 18, 2019 -- The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has named periodontist Homayoun Zadeh, DDS, PhD, as a defendant in the college admissions scandal in which wealthy parents allegedly paid to help their children secure admission to elite schools.

The FBI claims in an affidavit that Dr. Zadeh, a practicing periodontist and tenured associate professor of dentistry at the University of Southern California (USC), bribed the senior associate athletic director at USC to get his daughter recruited to the university's lacrosse team. The affidavit alleges that a profile created for his daughter falsely portrayed her as an elite lacrosse player in Los Angeles, even though she did not play the sport competitively.

The university has since placed Dr. Zadeh on leave, the first step in terminating tenured faculty. He is still listed as a periodontist at Brighton Periodontal and Implant Dental Group in Woodland Hills, CA.

Dr. Zadeh is an acclaimed periodontology researcher who has lectured at various conferences, including the 2018 Dental Implant Conference. His Brighton profile lists him as a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a member of the ADA, the California Dental Association, and the American Academy of Periodontology.
