August 1, 2019 -- A 7-year-old boy in India had more than 500 teeth pulled from a tumor-like growth along his lower right jaw, according to a July 31 news story in the New Indian Express.

The patient began experiencing swelling in his jaw, so he was taken to a dental college in Chennai. Multiple images showed a tumor-like sac, which contained 526 teeth. The condition is known as compound composite odontoma.

The removal of the growth took 90 minutes and was done under general anesthesia. However, it took practitioners five hours to remove the teeth from the growth. The patient now has 21 teeth, according to the story.

The teeth in the sac ranged from 0.1 mm to 15 mm and had crown, root, and enamel coating, according to Periasamy Senthilnathan, BDS, MDS, a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Saveetha Dental College.
