July 15, 2016 -- The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) will accept applications from dental students for its Students to Service Loan Repayment Program beginning August 16 for the 2016-2017 school year.

Eligibility is open to medical and dental students in their final year of a U.S. accredited school, who are planning to pursue a career in primary care, and who are committed to working in underserved communities with limited access to care, according to the NHSC.

Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for full-time enrollment in a program during the 2016-2017 school year (applicant must begin classes by September 30, 2016).

Students to Service loan repayment recipients can receive as much as $120,000 (exempt from federal income tax) for at least three years of full-time service at an approved NHSC site in a health professional shortage area.
