But there are ways to successfully navigate these changes and generate growth in the new economy, Dr. Levin emphasizes in this latest episode of "15 Minutes to Excellence," in which he discusses some of the permanent game changers Levin Group has identified.

"We've recognized that consulting, as of four years ago, had to change -- the recession was so deep and so long that what we had done in the past, despite having worked beautifully for years, was no longer going to be good enough," he said. "So Levin Group did a lot of research, launched brand new consulting programs, and I'm proud to say that 99% of our clients have seen growth, even during the recession. That would never have happened if we hadn't understood these eight permanent game changers and been able to make the changes necessary to get results."

For example, one of the most talked about issues in dentistry today is the rise of dental service organizations (DSOs), Dr. Levin noted. But he believes they do not pose as large a threat to private dental practices as many fear.

"We are seeing a rise of DSOs -- according to the Levin Group Data Center, up until four years ago only 4% of dentists were in DSOs. Today, it is 10%, and we are projecting 16% to 17% in five, six years," he said. "So they do represent competition to many private practices, but they are not going to take over private practices. We believe that between now and 2022, the number of private practices in the U.S. is going to increase by almost 10,000. So the challenge isn't just competing with corporate dental practices; the challenge is building an excellent practice that follows proven business models and that focuses on increasing production year after year."
