I read the article from Amanda Hill, RDH, BSDH, earlier this week on how to bring the two sides back together through nondefensive listening. I love when people give a starting point for where to restart a relationship and try to get through a conflict, and that's what I am trying to do today as well through my thoughts in the video below.
Much of the conflict between the two sides boils down to definitions of safety and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE). These are two hot-button topics in our industry right now, and it's easy to see why there could be tension between dentists and hygienists over these crucial pieces of information. However, there has to be a "business mindset" over an "emotional mindset." When emotions enter the mix, bad things usually happen -- and that's what is happening in many locations around the U.S. right now.
Let's talk about it -- and not on social media but with each other. Let's have an open conversation, hear the other side, and see where we agree more than we disagree. If we can do those things, our industry will be stronger and better in the days ahead.
