COLOGNE, GERMANY - The International Dental Show (IDS) is once again underway. The event, held every two years, is a launching pad for new products and technologies, including many that will not be available in the U.S. for months or even years to come.

Here is a look at some of the new products that have caught our eye early on during this product-driven dental conference. Part 2 will appear later this week.

This new printer fabricates surgical guides, dental models, and provisional crowns in a single patient visit. The printing materials are packaged in capsules, offering a unique way to dispense high-quality 3D printing materials and eliminate waste. The capsules are easy to attach to the printer and ensure that the valuable material inside them is always utilized efficiently. This helps with efficiency and also keeps cleanup to a minimum.

These materials are both medically approved and printer optimized to ensure a safe, quality result. Additionally, the easy-to-use touch display guides dental professionals every step of the way. The Creo C5 comes with optimized preprogrammed material settings, meaning there is no need to set parameters.

The printer itself is compact enough to be considered as a chairside 3D printer, so patients can see something being created right in front of them.

3Shape debuts latest Trios scanner

3Shape has introduced an updated version of its Trios scanner.

The Trios 4 intraoral scanner enables timely detection of both possible surface and interproximal caries within in a single scanner, according to 3Shape. Built-in fluorescent technology aids in the identification of possible caries without the need for an additional scanning device.

3Shape will add a dedicated transillumination smart tip later in 2019. The smart tip will aid in identifying possible interproximal caries undetectable to the eye, without emitting radiation, and is the first launch within 3Shape's upcoming Smart Tip platform.

GC America introduces new composite material

GC America has introduced a new universal restorative material, the GC G-ænial Universal Injectable.

This new material is a universal restorative composite reportedly displaying exceptional strength and resistance for long-lasting aesthetic restorations. The product is available in 16 shades in three translucency levels and is indicated for all cavity classes without covering layer. It also features a high radiopacity of 252%, which will help detect any secondary caries, according to GC America.

The material's unique viscosity adapts to any clinical situation and does not slump during placement. The G-ænial Universal Injectable also features dispensing tips with a long needle that can be curved simply by applying a light pressure with fingers, giving the practitioner access to difficult posterior cavities.

Ivoclar Vivadent launches composite system

Ivoclar Vivadent has debuted the 3s PowerCure composite system.

The open-product system includes a single-component Adhese Universal adhesive, the new Bluephase PowerCure curing light, the sculptable Tetric PowerFill, and the flowable Tetric PowerFlow 4-mm composite material.

The 3s name comes from the fact that these materials can be light-cured from the occlusal aspect in only 3 seconds with the Bluephase PowerCure curing light. The new system allows dentists to reduce their treatment time by more than half while achieving the same aesthetics and function, according to Ivoclar Vivadent.
