A former Colorado dentist was sentenced to three years in prison on July 29 for charges related to distributing Percocet and other drugs to employees.
Bonifacio Guillena III, DDS, known as "Dr. B," pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance in January. He distributed Xanax, Percocet, and Oxycontin to employees at his Comfort Dental practice in Silverthorne, CO.
A former employee of the practice accused Guillena of illegally distributing controlled substances in March 2018. The Silverthorne Police Department obtained a warrant and searched the office, where they found documents supporting the claim.
Guillena's dental license was suspended, and he later surrendered it. He was originally sentenced to three years of Community Corrections, but the court rescinded the original sentence after he was arrested for stalking.
"The defendant not only abused his dental license and honorable practice, but he proved the harmful effects drugs and drug abuse can cause to so many," stated Bruce Brown, district attorney for Colorado's Fifth Judicial District, in a press release. "Defendant B was originally given the chance at a much lighter sentence in Community Corrections, but his reckless and dangerous actions showed prison is the right place for him to be, now."
