The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will raise its prescriber registration fee from $731 to $888 on October 1, according to the California Dental Association (CDA).
The fee will apply to renewals and new applications for DEA prescriber registration, which is required for dentists in California who prescribe, administer, or dispense opioids or any controlled substance. The price increase will apply to applications submitted on or after October 1 and will cover a three-year period.
The DEA last increased its fee in 2012, the CDA stated in a release. In a notice, the DEA said the increase is to recover costs of its Diversion Control Program for controlled substances.
