The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has amended its aerosol-generating procedure recommendations in its COVID-19 Guidance for Dental Settings document.

The document, released on December 2, 2020, originally stated that dental personnel should avoid aerosol-generating procedures for all patients, regardless of known or suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection status. In a minor edit, that language has since been removed, the CDC said.

The document now aligns with current CDC recommendations. The CDC advises that dental healthcare personnel avoid aerosol-generating procedures for patients with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, if possible.
