The HIV Care Continuum (AIDS Cascade) is used as a guide to define the HIV epidemic. It is also highlighted in the National AIDS Strategy released in August 2015 to set goals to improve the health status of persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).  The focus of this course, referring to the AIDS Cascade, is to explain where the oral healthcare team can assist in diagnosis, linkage between medical and oral health, adherence to medical and dental treatment and retention in care.  It has been demonstrated that if patients can be retained in care and adhere to their antiretroviral treatment, they have better health outcomes and are more likely to be virally suppressed.
