Canadian city sees increase in caries after ending fluoridation

December 10, 2014 -- Dentists and dental hygienists in Calgary, Alberta, say they are seeing rampant caries in children's teeth following a decision to remove fluoride from the Canadian city's water supply three years ago.

Sarah Hulland, DDS, a Calgary pediatric dentist who is on the board of trustees of the Alberta Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, said she's seeing "a lot more children with a lot more caries," including many 19- to 20-month babies who don't even have all their teeth in yet, according to a CBC.ca story.

Many young children need to be sedated or put under general anesthesia because of the extensive amount of needed oral treatment, she said.

Currently, there is a three-month wait to see a pediatric dentist in Calgary, compared with a month's wait when the city fluoridated its water supply, according to Dr. Hulland.

Others are quoted saying children's attention spans are affected at school, and many absences are attributed to painful oral problems.

Calgary's medical health officer wants the city to discuss restoring the fluoride program.

"Many young children need to be sedated or put under general anesthesia because of the extensive amount of needed oral treatment, she said."
This seems more more like parental neglect, than a lack of swallowing the toxin fluoride, probably baby bottle rot, where the bottle is left in the toddlers mouth for long periods. Or parents giving their young children soda or acidic juices.

Fluoride is a topical treatment, you can get the same effect of fluoridated water, by swishing brewed tea around in your mouth and then spitting it out, simple.
And no accumulating toxin to swallow for the rest of your life, no brainer.
The ADAF is giving out grants for education, that seems smarter than unnecessarily putting a toxin into your water supply.

why would dentists, who seemingly get more business if fluoride is not in the water, recommend putting it back in?

probably because they recognize the benefits of fluoride and its ability to help control cavities.   used for over 100 years, in the proper dosages, it is very helpful.   "everything is a poison but for its dose!"   mr oz, please leave the dentistry to the professionals.

Ok Mr Professional ejax17, tell me , and show me your calculations, what is your average daily dose of fluoride from ALL sources, water, food, beverages, dental products, air, soil, skin absorption, medicines, pesticides, teflon, etc? Good luck.
You are a teeth " professional", why are you in the business of putting a toxin into the blood stream, that delivers this toxin to every part of the body, for life? Again it is a topical treatment. An accumulative toxin too.
Unscientific, unnecessary and unethical, 97% of Europe stopped it decades ago.
Fluoridation was controversially introduced about 60 to70 years ago in USA, not 100 years ago.
You may need to re-examine what they told you in dental school
