Del. dentist fined for Medicaid fraud

Marieve Rodriguez, DMD, of Wilmington, DE, will pay a $100,000 fine and repay $72,000 to the state for filing false Medicaid reports.

Dr. Rodriguez admitted to 10 misdemeanor counts of filing false reports; in exchange, state prosecutors dropped 19 felony counts of healthcare fraud, according to a story on Delawareonline.com.

Dr. Rodriguez, who operates Gentle Care Family Dentistry, will pay $50,000 to cover the prosecution costs.

She also agreed to have her license suspended for a year and not participate in the state's Medicaid program for at least five years.

Dr. Rodriguez faced up to 10 years in prison, but prosecutors recommended one year of home confinement as part of the deal.
