Senior Airman Tabari Matthews, a dental assistant assigned to the 189th Medical Group at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, has been named as one of the U.S. National Guard's Best of 2023.

Matthews, a guardsman since 2020, recently served in a medical mission to Guatemala in which he showcased his dedication to international cooperation and humanitarianism, which are some of the principles of the U.S. National Guard, while assisting in providing critical dental care. His dedication and “willingness to go above and beyond” earned him this recognition, according to a press release dated January 3 from the 19th Airlift Wing, Public Affairs.

Matthews called his work with the mission life-altering

“It was an honor to be able to assist in caring for the members of our state partner, benefiting the health and well-being of the Guatemalan people and strengthening the bond between Arkansas and Guatemala,” Matthews said in the release.
