Univ. of the Pacific alum gives dental school $5M

The University of the Pacific (UOP) has received $5 million for its new San Francisco campus from former regent and alumnus Ron Redmond, DDS, and his wife Margaret.

The gift -- the largest ever to the dental school -- will help fund the $151 million renovation of the school's new downtown building, which will house the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and other academic programs, the university announced.

Dr. Redmond has an orthodontics practice in Laguna Niguel, CA. He served on the university's board of regents from 2004 to 2012 and is a former president of the Pacific Dugoni Foundation, the dental school's fundraising arm. Dr. Redmond chaired the dental school's Commitment to Excellence campaign, which raised more than $65 million.

Two of Dr. Redmond's sons are alumni of the dental school and now work in his practice.
