LSU gets $1M to rebuild dentistry school physical plant

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide $1.2 million in aid money to Louisiana Facility Planning and Control to replace the Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry physical plant, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The money will also go toward mitigation measures designed to limit damage from future storms; the plant was inundated by 5 ft of water during Katrina and sustained architectural, mechanical, and electrical damage when the water remained for two weeks.

After the hurricane, which struck on August 23, 2005, the school was moved to LSU's south campus in Baton Rouge. In August of 2007, it returned to New Orleans.

Crucial plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment will be elevated as part of the new design.
