3-year-old La. boy dies after dental procedure

A 3-year-old Louisiana boy has died following a dental procedure earlier this month.

Ja'Chyron West of Sulphur, LA, died March 19 after being treated by Cecilia Oubre, DDS, at Oak Park Dental in Lake Charles, LA, according to a kplctv.com story.

Clinic officials said Dr. Oubre was advised by her attorney not to comment.

The boy died at a Lake Charles hospital after being in a coma for six days.

Ja'Chyron's mother said she was told by office staff that her son was being a "sleepy head" and she needed to come help wake him up, the story said, but she couldn't get him to respond.

The boy died without regaining consciousness, according to the story.

The coroner has not yet released the boy's cause of death.

Dr. Oubre has no record of disciplinary actions, according to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. She received her dental degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2009.
