AAOM elects new president

The American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM) has elected Wendy Hupp, DMD, as its new president, the organization announced this week at its annual meeting in Atlanta.

Dr. Hupp is an associate professor and the interim chair of the department of general dentistry and oral medicine at the University of Louisville (UofL) School of Dentistry in Kentucky.

Increasing awareness of the oral medicine specialty will be a special focus for Dr. Hupp as AAOM president.

"After the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas this year ruled in favor of recognizing the specialty status of oral medicine, we are informing other healthcare providers and the public of our credentials as diplomates of the American Board of Oral Medicine and the benefits of seeking care for diseases and conditions treated most efficiently by oral medicine specialists," Dr. Hupp stated in a UofL press release.
