Neb. dental school gets $4M to expand rural dentistry

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Dentistry has been awarded a $4 million, 10-year contract to increase the number of UNMC dental school graduates practicing in the state's rural areas.

The contract, from the state of Nebraska's Oral Health Training and Services Fund, will also focus on expanding oral health services throughout the state.

Some of the funds will be used for scholarships for UNMC graduating dentists who commit to practicing in a dental workforce shortage area in Nebraska for at least five years. Another goal of the funding is increasing the number of patients treated by faculty and students of the UNMC dental school through new or expanded services at various clinics.
