Trump nominates Dr. Tom Price as new HHS secretary

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Rep. Tom Price, MD (R-GA), as the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Dr. Price, an orthopedic surgeon, has represented Georgia's 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2004. He is currently the chairman of the House Budget Committee and has also served on the House Committee on Ways and Means, including the health subcommittee.

During his tenure in Congress, Dr. Price has strongly opposed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). If confirmed as the HHS secretary by the U.S. Senate, he will be responsible for overseeing its replacement.
