A 57-year-old New Hampshire dentist indicted on 189 counts of Medicaid fraud faces up to 1,300 years in prison, according to a story in the Concord Monitor.
Nicholas Marshall, DDS, who practices in Manchester, is accused of making claims that were either unjustified based on treatment records or had already been paid for through the program, the Monitor reported.
He billed Medicaid for oral exams, x-rays, tooth extractions, and orthopedic treatment provided over the past five years.
Dr. Marshall is still practicing out of his office, and his attorney Jim Moir told the Monitor that because Medicaid regulations are extremely complicated, this could all be an issue of basic misunderstanding.
Meanwhile, each charge against Dr. Marshall carries a possible 3.5- to seven-year sentence. He is scheduled for arraignment on January 15.
